Today I was casually looking around for unique knives to write about and stumbled upon the Smith and Wesson Military & Police M.A.G.I.C knives. At first, I thought I was looking at some sort of elaborate alien technology, but it turns out the Military & Police M.A.G.I.C series was quite intuitive and way less science fiction than aliens and UFO’s.

M.A.G.I.C is an acronym used by Smith and Wesson meaning Multipurpose, Assisted, Generational, Innovative, Cutlery. The series certainly lives up to that definition utilizing an innovative assisted opening mechanism. You can open the knife using two different methods. You can push up on the thumb plate or you can pull the lever on the spine (that also resembles a gunsight). The versatility of this assisted opening mechanism is something new to Smith and Wesson and the knife world.

The Military & Police M.A.G.I.C can be purchased in either a modified drop point or tanto blade design. The blades are 4034 Stainless steel and have a nice edge from the factory. The handle material is T-6 aircraft aluminum that’s with an attractive and tactical black coating.

There is more to the Military & Police M.A.G.I.C than just attractive handles, capable blade design, and revolutionary assisted-opening mechanisms. The series also comes standard with an oversized ambidextrous safety, a large and reinforced pocket clip, a lanyard hole, and a glass breaking tip.
