Marble’s is a great company for quite a few reasons. Yes, we all know they are great at making affordable and traditional outdoors knives, but what other products does this company excel at? One answer is the Marble’s Survival Bowie. It’s a contemporary survival knife at a great price that is perfect for anyone who is just getting into bushcrafting.

Living in the Smoky Mountains has given me a vast array of knowledge when it comes to all things outdoors. The knife you choose to carry is one of the most important decisions you make when building up your gear, and if you’re new to the hobby and not looking to over-invest before you know what you want, you’re probably not going to buy a $100 ESEE right off the bat. The Marble’s Survival Bowie is $12.99 and includes a lot of valuable features that the more expensive knives have. Marble’s has a good reputation for producing quality knives at a cheap price, so you don’t have to worry about wasting your money on junk.

The blade is black coated 440A stainless steel. The black coating will protect the blade through the tough conditions that you may face in the outdoors. The Survival Bowie features a 7” cutting edge that will certainly help if you’re looking to baton wood, clear a trail, or just want added confidence knowing you’re carrying a substantial sized knife. The downside to the larger blades is weight (trust me a few miles down the trail everything seems to weigh twice as much), but Marble’s has managed to offer a large cutting edge for less than a pound.

The handle of the Survival Bowie is a bit more modern than some of the classic micarta and leather handle knives on the market. This knife features an orange composition handle with rubberized grips. This accomplishes two things. It’s easily visible, and you get phenomenal grip (even in wet conditions). The rubber has texture grips molded into it so that you can effectually chop or baton without the fear of your hand slipping towards the blade.

Marble’s included a high-quality nylon sheath with the Survival Bowie. A nylon sheath makes great companion for your outdoor knife because they are very durable and the weather has no effect on the wear and tear of the sheath (a big pitfall to leather sheaths unless you know how to care for it). This sheath is compatible with the MOLLE system which allows the sheath to be carried in many ways. It will easily mount on your belt vertically or horizontally, or you can strap it to your bag or chest rig (if they are MOLLE compatible too). The sheath even has a little pocket in the front to carry a fire-starting kit or sharpening stone which is a nice touch by Marble’s (you don’t want to have dig to the bottom of your bag every time you want to find your fire-starter, trust me).
