While visiting Smoky Mountain Knife Works this past weekend, I got my hands on their May catalog (you can get one for free here https://www.smkw.com/catalog-signup/ ). This month’s catalog features two gorgeous Damascus swords. Frankly, I think that they would be stunning on display, and a wonderful conversation starters for your home.

Two great Damascus Swords from SMKW

One of the swords displayed on the cover is a traditional Kris sword. The Kris is a warrior’s sword designed to look like the body of the nāga or dragon. This shape empowers the warrior and assures him victory in battle. While dragons may not exist, the Kris has remained for centuries as an important icon to many Asian-pacific tribesmen.

This specific Kris features an all Damascus blade and pommel. The layering of the steel is beautiful, and displays the talent of those who made the blade. This Kris’s handle is made from wood and natural bone dressed up with traditional brass ornamentation. The hand guard and pommel also have very ornate file-work on them which adds to the authentic hand-made quality that many collectors look for.

The cover of the catalog also features a beautiful example of a Knight’s sword. This sword is Damascus too, but the shape is what you would expect for any traditional knight’s sword. The straight blade features a blood groove that is typical of swords of this period. Its handle is made from tri-color wire wrapping secured by brown and black spacers. The wire wrapping is similar to the original knight’s sword in appearance, but is far more wear-resistant than traditional cloth wrapping.

Both swords come with high-quality leather sheaths. They are simply beautiful and look great placed on display with these swords.
