The Buck 104 Compadre Camp Knife is different from Buck’s typical style. It’s a bonafide bushcrafting knife with features you would expect to see on a Tops or ESEE.

Buck 104 Compadre

The 104 Compadre has a serious blade to complete serious tasks. Buck made this knife with durable 5160 carbon steel. Carbon is perfect for the outdoors because of its strength and ease to sharpen, but the Achilles heel of carbon steel is rust. Buck solved this issue by giving the 104 Compadre a bright red powder coating. The coating provides a protective layer for the steel and makes the knife easily recognizable around the campfire.

The handles are also designed with durability in mind. Buck decided to go for the classic look by giving it 104 heritage walnut Dymondwood handles. Dymondwood is treated wood that takes on plastic-like durability while still showing off the beauty of the wood grain. They are built to last without sacrificing aesthetics. The handles are secured to the full tang with two large steel rivets. The rivets aren’t intrusive to your grip and allow no play in the handle.

The 104 Compadre comes with two different protections. It includes a leather sheath embossed with “104” and Buck’s logo. And, it comes with Buck’s industry leading Forever Warranty. Buck will repair or replace the knife no matter how old it gets or how hard it’s been used. The Forever Warranty is a value on its own, but considering how hard bushcrafting knives are used, it really becomes an important addition.

The Buck 104 Compadre is certainly different than anything else that Buck has in their lineup. This knife is built for abuse and the demanding tasks of bushcrafting. With an MSRP on the 104 at just over $90, we found it around the internet a bit cheaper. We got our test knife from Smoky Mountain Knife Works. We checked their website (smkw.com) and found the 104 for $62.99. Overall, I would say that’s a difficult deal to beat. You can find this deal by simply clicking the button below.
