Spyderco LadybugSpyderco did a sprint run of the Spyderco Ladybug and Manbug. These knives were upgraded to be tougher and harder, but still be the a fantastic everyday carry you’ve come to know and love. They are available for pre-order.

First off, the major difference between the Spyderco Ladybug and the Spyderco Manbug is the name. Sure, there’s the tiniest fraction of a difference between the two, but mostly it’s the name.

Even Spyderco says so. “Anyone who has ever used a LadyBug knows that it cuts with an authority far beyond its size. However, as part of Spyderco’s quest for C.Q.I. (Constant Quality Improvement), [Sal] Glesser decided to make [the Ladybug] even better. And, for anyone whose male ego made it difficult for them to carry a ‘LadyBug,’ he also made life easier. The result is the ManBug, an amazingly handy cutting tool that is more at home in larger hands while still fitting inconspicuously in a pocket or even on a keychain.”

What’s the fraction of the difference – other than the name? The Spyderco Ladybug has a 1.94” clip point blade with a closed length of 2.44”, and the Spyderco Manbug has a 1.97” clip point blade with a closed length of 2.50”. For the math phobic, that’s only a 0.06″ difference, so in this case, size really doesn’t much matter.

Another difference is in price. The Spyderco Ladybug is the cheaper of the two at only $42.22.  The Manbug runs $55.22 on pre-order.  Ain’t it just the way?

What did they upgrade? The previous iterations of the Manbug and the Ladybug used VG-10 steel on their non-salt varieties.  For this sprint run, they took V-Toku2 tool steel and layered it with SUS310 resulting in a blade that is super tough, with a high hardness.

These knives also feature blue green sturdy fiberglass reinforced nylon grips tons of jimping which will provide excellent slip resistance. It, of course, has the iconic Spyderco thumb hole opener on the blade, as well as a keyring hole in the body of the knife, so you can carry it how you choose.
