In order to write this article, we read a lot of posts from people talking about the Tidioute Huckleberry Boys Knife, GEC pattern #15. So many people wrote that the chain was stupid. They’re wrong. The bail and chain is far from “stupid” and is, in fact, brilliant.

Let’s get this out of the way. Everyone loves the knife itself. It’s everything you love about a Tidioute knife. Made in the USA. Fabulous fit and finish with several different handle materials from which to choose. The blade is 1095 carbon steel with a mirror polish. The knives are fantastic and almost no reasonable person disagrees. You can even get them without the bail and chain.

However, the bail and chain attachment is an incredibly clever design. We’ve heard more than one person say, “I’m not buying an expensive knife. I’ll just lose it.”  With the bail and chain, you are less likely to lose it because it has a fantastic, and underrated attachment mechanism. You decide what you’re going to attach the knife to – belt loop, back pack, wrist, or purse.  You loop the knife through the eye at the end of the chain, and BOOM! Your knife is now attached by a chain to you or whichever object you decided to attach it to.

If you’re one of those outdoorsy type people, you can now carry your nice knife attached to your gear without fear of losing it. If you’re one of those “accidentally forget where you put something” type people, well now you can have a nice knife. Just loop it through something that’s always with you – like an ankle (#theoldbailandchain).
