sog vulcan miniNo, this knife has nothing to do with the race of humanoid extraterrestrials from Star Trek. The SOG Vulcan Mini gets its name from a Gatling-style rotary cannon used on United States military aircraft and like that gun, it’s designed with a focus on “speed, power, and versatility.” Whether you want to use it for everyday tasks, work, or tactical applications it’s not a bad choice. You’ll get great steel, a great grip, and an overall wicked design for just under $90.

The Vulcan Mini has a 3″ satin finished VG-10 steel drop point with three opening mechanisms. You can flick it open with the ambidextrous thumb studs, use the flipper and a slight wrist flick, or pull back halfway on the Arc-Lock mechanism and let the blade effortlessly open.  That’s just a ton of versatility when it comes to one-handed opening.

sog vulcan miniUnlocking the blade is also simple because Arc-Lock is easy to use. Just pull back on each side with your thumb and index finger to release the blade. SOG tells us it “can hold over 1000 lbs. of force.”

A thumb ramp on the spine combined with a heavily textured GRN handle ensure a trusty grip when you need it. The handle is contoured and has thumb grooves and stainless liners with a SOG cutout to give it even cooler looks. It’s carried easily with a low-profile tip-up pocket clip.
