I’m looking through SMKW’s latest catalog and right inside the front page I noticed the words “Moving Sale” at the top of the page. I keep reading to discover that Schrade is having a moving sale, and Smoky Mountain Knife Works is passing on the savings. The items that caught my eye? The Schrade Outback machetes and Kukri models.

Schrade Machete and Kukri

The Outback Machete uses 3Cr12 stainless steel blades. You have a choice of an 18″ or 22″ model, both with Schrade’s Safe-T-Grip handle. It’s made of composite material and features a D-guard that protects your fingers while you swing. Both lengths come with an OD green military style sheath with built-in sharpeners.

The Kukri blade is my favorite of the three I found. It was made famous by the Gurkha warriors for its superior chopping power in combat. That’s why it’s an excellent choice for a shorter blade machete that you can depend on. Just like the Outback Machete series, the Kukri also uses 3Cr13 stainless steel for its blade. It is only available in a 15″ overall length – but honestly, you wouldn’t ever need much more. This model comes with a polyester sheath that attaches via belt loop, shoulder strap, or leg strap. The sheath includes a ferro rod and sharpening stone in a removable pouch. The accessories really make this bundle quite impressive for the price.
