2016 marks the 200th anniversary of the Remington Arms company. Remington was founded in 1816 by Eliphalet Remington in Ilion, New York, as E. Remington and Sons. Remington is America’s oldest gun maker and “It’s America’s oldest factory that still makes its original product-guns.” It is the only U.S. company which produces both firearms and ammunition domestically and is the largest U.S. producer of shotguns and rifles. Remington has also developed or adopted more cartridges than any other gun maker or ammunition manufacturer in the world. Additionally its products are distributed in over 60 foreign countries, making its distribution base and availability wider than those of its competitors.
To celebrate this 200th Anniversary, Remington has partnered with Smoky Mountain Knife Works to produce some gorgeous collectibles. SMKW gave the knifenewsroom team one of the oversized Trappers (RE11917) that they are producing exclusively for this celebration.
Don’t let the image fool you. When they say “oversized,” they mean oversized. This think is over 8″ closed and weighs in at nearly a pound and a half. When it’s open, it’s almost 15″ long overall. The Remington green wooden handles look great between pinched nickel silver bolsters, and if you look closely at the image above, you’ll see some fantastic decorative detailing in the backs springs.
Each blade has it’s own anniversary blade etch, and the tang stamp is the well-known ‘Remington Collertors’ Series’ stamp. The custom shield is a great addition too (see image below).
And, if you’re thinking to yourself, “Where the heck do I put a giant knife?” – well, SMKW and Remington thought of that too. They’ve provided a wood and glass-front display case with every order.
These aren’t quite ready to order yet, but we’ll certainly let you know when they are.
