CRKT tells us that Karen Hood designed the CRKT Chopper to “take down trees without adding to the girth of your pack.” We didn’t fell any trees, but we did take serious chunks out of some pressure treated lumber with the 1095 High Carbon Steel, CRKT Chopper. Here’s a first look at the 15″ Chopper in all its glory.
The 12-degree drop of the Chopper’s blade maximizes it’s chopping power. We believe the blade shape is what might happen if a machete and a kukri had a baby. It feels great in the hand as your chopping, because the weight of the full tang Chopper is distributed perfectly to aid in the chopping process.
Beyond chopping, we were able to feather the same pressure treated lumber quite easily, so fine detail work with this survival knife isn’t out of the question at all.

The Chopper’s corrosion-resistant powder coated finish faces back country elements head on and the 1095 High Carbon steel comes in at a nice 56-58 on the HRC chart.
The Chopper rides low profile in its reinforced nylon belt sheath considering its substantial 9″ blade and punches above its weight. The handles are removable and can be replaced with paracord—becoming a major threat to any job in the bush.
Overall, we really liked the CRKT Chopper. It worked well and felt great. We’d highly recommend it to anyone who was thinking of heading out into the woods for an adventure.
