Tactical self-defense and classic slip-joint knives are great, but sometimes you need a workhorse. The Gerber Edict is a durable and resilient knife that offers a lot of cutting power at an affordable price. This knife accomplishes even difficult tasks without turning your blade into a screwdriver (yikes).
One of the things that make the Gerber Edict so durable is the handle material. It’s made of Glass Filled Nylon which is pretty standard on durable knives, but Gerber has taken it a step further. The Glass Filled Nylon also features a rubber over-mold that contains a diamond-gripped texture. This adds shock absorbing properties to the handle and increases grip. The shape is fairly ergonomic, and a finger guard is tastefully included in the design.
The Gerber Edict has a robust locking mechanism that gives you a good sense of safety during heavy use. I believe that your knife is only as strong as its weakest point, and Gerber made sure the lock on this lockback wasn’t going to fail. The Gerber Edict is also fairly easy to open with its ambidextrous thumb studs. Between the lock and the thumb studs, you really should have no problem operating this knife one-handed.
The blade is a midsize 3 5/8″ drop point. It’s perfect for anything from letter opening to batoning wood in an emergency. Gerber chose to make the blade out of high quality 154CM steel. 154CM has an impressive track record of edge retention while maintaining its ease of sharpening. This blade setup is perfect for someone on the job or in the field.
