In 1990, Buck released the original Selector. Its interchangeable blade system revolutionized the knife world. This cutting-edge design has made its return with the Buck Selector 2.0. It’s the equivalent of getting three quality knives for the price of one. The Selector 2.0 is perfect for the upcoming hunting season or just general year-round EDC tasks.
Rather than having two separate controls for closing the knife and removing the blades, the Buck Selector 2.0’s blade interchange system uses a mid-lock mechanism to accomplish both. This seamless design makes the operation much more simple and natural feeling than others. Simply hold the mid-lock and rotate the blade 45 degrees to remove it, or just press and release to close the knife.
The durable thermoplastic handle of the Selector 2.0 is fairly unique when compared to others in the Buck lineup. Thermoplastic can be fairly smooth and hard to grip, so Buck added molded-in ergonomics and textured sections, which come in handy in adverse conditions.
The Buck Selector 2.0’s 420 high carbon stainless steel blades retain an edge well and allow easy sharpening. The Selector 2.0 comes with three blades in the box: a gut hook, drop point, and partially serrated drop point. This is perfect for those who can’t decide between a non-serrated EDC or a partially serrated work knife. The 3 3/4″ blades handle most general, cutting tasks.
Note that Buck sells all of these blades and more separately. The blades that come with the knife can be replaced for $10 each. Buck also sells two different blade styles that aren’t included with the original set: a hoof-pick and a non-serrated Skinner.
As with any Buck knife I write about, I have to include the warranty information – it’s just too good not to. The Selector 2.0 comes with Buck’s Forever Warranty. This warranty covers anything that could happen to this knife forever, even if you’re not the original owner. This is a huge peace at mind for people who use these knives for work or in the outdoors since that can be abusing to a knife. This warranty is certainly a hidden value to any Buck knife that’s worth noting.
