The Hinderer Eklipse is a tank. All Hinderer knives are. There’s no two ways about it, but the Trailing Point blade on this Hinderer Eklipse Trailing Point may be the first time a tank looks sexy.
According to Hinderer knives, “The Eklipse is known the world over as one of the toughest tactical folders regardless of your mission …a no nonsense tactical tool ready for the simplest cutting tasks to high speed low drag operations.” We agree.
Built on the orginal 4.875″ Eklipse body, the Trailing Point features a 3.5″ S35VN steel blade that is .188″ thick. It’s sleek but solid and comes with stonewash finish. The blade itself is reminiscent of a traditional Little Finger hunting knife, but a bit longer and leaner. It slopes inward to a fine point, which gives it more than an adequate belly.
“The blade locks up on a solid ¼ in diameter Thumb stud which is press fitted into the blade. This makes for a very strong lockup as there is no loosening of the thumb stud which can happen with two piece designs. The fact that the thumb stud locks up against the frame adds an incredible amount of strength to the sideways torque of the blade as the sideways stresses are being stopped by the whole handle side, thus relieving the stress that would normally be put on the pivot,” says Hinderer knives.
To say this knife is a beast is an understatement. The front scale is hunter orange G10 and the back scale is titanium. Hinderer tells us that they make the “17-4PH Stainless steel pivots on a new state of the art CNC turning center thus guaranteeing precise accuracy. The pivot is a ¼” in barrel diameter with a 3/8″ head. The pivot is drilled and tapped completely through and is mated with an In house designed screw. This system makes for an incredibly strong pivot that is easy to adjust in the field.”
