It’s lightweight, easy to carry, and has smooth, lightning-fast opening. The Artisan Cutlery Shark series is available in various materials and a variety of price points.
Prices range from $39.99 for the base Shark with D2 carbon steel and G-10 handles to $129.99 for the most luxurious models that feature TC4 titanium handles with carbon fiber inlays and S35VN stainless steel blades.
The 1707GS Shark
Of particular note is the 1707GS. This is the smaller of the luxury Sharks, and it might be on our favorite new knives of 2018 list. In a series of easily carried knives, this one manages to stand out by practically disappearing in your pocket. For comparison purposes, the 1707GS is about the same size as a traditional trapper. It, of course, has the same amazing action Artisan Cutlery delivers.
Each knife in this series features a satin finished D2 or S35VN drop point blade. The blade is deployed via flipper and features a ceramic ball bearing pivot system. The action on all of these knives is remarkably fast and smooth. Once deployed, the blade is held securely in place with either a linerlock or a framelock, depending on which knife in the series you choose. Finally, each knife in this series has an ambidextrous, tip-up pocket clip made of either titanium or stainless steel.
The 1707P Shark
The Artisan Cutlery Shark Model 1707P has a 3.94” satin finished D2 carbon steel blade. The G-10 scales are accented with anodized blue hardware and are mounted on a stunning anodized blue stainless steel frame. The Shark 1707P has a linerlock and a stainless steel ambidextrous tip-up pocket clip. The carbon fiber models of the 1707P are slightly upgraded with S35VN steel. The carbon fiber handles are mounted on the same liners as the G-10 version and also have the anodized blue stainless steel hardware. These knives are simply gorgeous, lightweight, and fun to use.
The 1707G Shark
The 1707G series is the top of the line Shark from Artisan. All have a framelock, TC4 titanium handles with carbon fiber inlays and S35VN stainless steel blades. The reversible tip-up pocket clip is made from titanium. The 1707G is the larger of the knives. The 1707GS is the smaller version. The titanium versions all have contrasting hardware. They have a fabulous hand feel, they all weigh less than 4 ounces, and they are all an excellent value for a wonderful knife.
