The Ontario Gen II SP50 has long been known to fans as one of the best bushcraft, survival, and general purpose knives you can get for the price. Well, the price on the Ontario Knife Company Spec Plus Gen II SP50 has dropped by about 50%. You can now get this legendarily outstanding USA made knife for about $50 while supplies last.
The SP50 has a 9.5” 5160 carbon steel spear point blade that’s been black powder coated. The coating stands up to a fair amount of abuse. Ontario tells us, “Designed for function by blade-master Dan Maragni, these full-tang historically based knives are water-jet-cut from 5160 steel, the steel-that-cuts-other-steel.” In addition to being very durable, it holds its edge far longer than one might expect. The blade forward balance on this knife makes it easy to excel at chopping.
The comfortable black Kraton handle resists slippage well. For added security, there’s also a lanyard hole. Finally, the SP50 comes with a MOLLE compatible nylon sheath.
