Let’s get this out of the way. The Pro-Tech Runt J4 Tanto is a small knife. In fact, it’s overall length is shorter than the average traditional slipjoint. If you’re looking for a pocket chunker that can chop a watermelon in half with a single blow, this is not the knife for you. However, if you’re in the market for a fast, sexy little auto that discreetly hides in your pocket until you whip her out, this knife might be the one for you.
The USA made Pro-Tech J4 Runt has a California legal 2” 154CM stainless steel tanto blade that flies open with the push of a button. Did we mention it’s fast? Like, really fast? It’s so delightfully fast, we couldn’t help but grin every time we pushed the button. Even the Editor’s snarling at the incessant, sexy snicking sounds couldn’t keep us from repeatedly opening this knife. Once open, it accomplished every daily task we asked of it. It stabbed all the boxes like it had contempt for cardboard. The morning mail opened briskly and efficiently. It even had ample amounts of energy to slice through the doughnut
The Runt features lightweight aluminum handle scales that are contoured for a great grip. It’s available in a few different colors to suit any taste. It weighs about 2 ounces and has a closed length of about 3.33″. Combine all that with a tip-down pocket clip and you’ve got a small, lightweight auto that practically disappears in your pocket.
