Kershaw’s 2020 lineup is edgy (every pun intended). They’ve given us new knives that push the limit of what we know of Kershaw, and the new Kershaw Payout pays off in this regard. It’s a full-size EDC framelock flipper that looks different and feels great.
At first glance, the Kershaw Payout stands out for its size. It’s nearly 5″ closed and flips open to a full 8.3″. The curved handle houses a chunk of a very modern 3.5″ clip point blade. We really like that Kershaw has moved to D2 tool steel on many models this year, and the Payout is one of them. Oh, and did we mention this beast is SpeedSafe assisted opening too? No? It is.
The front handle is black G-10 with a large stainless steel bolster. The back handle that houses the framelock is all stainless steel. And, all of the steel in this knife features Kershaw’s excellent stonewash finish, except for two incredible touches to this knife. The aluminum pivot ring on the front bolster is anodized in copper, and the back handle echoes the pivot color with a custom over-travel stop anodized in copper as well.
This knife features an ambidextrous tip-up, deep carry pocket clip and a copper colored standoff that houses a lanyard hole. It’s 4.9″ closed, 8.3″ overall and weighs 5.3oz.
