Rough Rider has a soft spot for commemorating nostalgia. It’s clearly seen throughout their lineup that this theme fits perfectly with their classic patterns and build materials. The Rough Rider First Gun Fighter pays tribute to Wild Bill Hickok, a union soldier, marksman, actor, professional gambler, and most notably, one of the first gun fighters in the Wild West.
The First Gun Fighter is a full-size trapper that features the classic clip point and spay blades that were most commonly used in the old days. The frosted etch blades inscribed with “The First Gun Fighter” and “Wild Bill Hickok” which makes the knife perfect for a display case. If you really want to use the knife, have no worries because Rough Rider makes their blades out of quality 440 stainless steel and they come razor sharp right out of the box (seriously, I know because I cut my finger reviewing this knife).
One cool feature of this knife that is often overlooked are the match strike pulls that are tooled into the blade. These pulls help in opening the knife, but also provide a textured surface to strike a match in a pinch.
The handles of The First Gun Fighter have quite an interesting texture. The beautiful brown bone features a buckshot pattern at the bottom that turns into a standard jugging pattern on top. This multi-patterned style is unique and has a great pocket worn look right out of the box. Rough Rider chose to use their special “20 years” shield with nickel silver bolsters for a nice quality touch.
