Is it surprising to anyone that Canadian knife designer Brian Tighe was inspired to create the Drip Tighe while eating a stack of pancakes? No? We didn’t think so either, but you have to admit the “Canadian Renaissance Man” (as CRKT calls) created a great conversation starter with this knife.
The 7.25″ Drip Tighe features CRKT’s lightning fast, Outburst® Assisted Opening mechanism which makes one-hand opening a breeze. CRKT tells us, “The beauty is in the action. Push the thumb stud to open the blade a mere 30 degrees to engage the OutBurst® assisted opening mechanism. Once the internal spring is activated, the blade bursts fully open and sits snugly in place with a frame lock. When it’s not in use, the powerful spring holds the blade securely closed.”
The 3.1″ 8Cr13MoV steel modified drop point blade suits the knife perfectly. It screams everyday carry in every way, and fits well in the pocket.
However, the assisted-opening mechanism, nor the blade gave this knife its name. The layered handle of the Drip Tighe steals the show. CRKT points to the star of the show as, “the layered handle design stacked with an exposed stainless steel frame, a black G10 middle layer, and a black woven carbon fiber top layer.”
According to CRKT and Brian Tighe, the designer found his inspiration for the Drip Tighe’s handle while pouring a thick layer of maple syrup on his breakfast pancakes. “[H]e hopped up and hit the drawing board to sketch out the incredibly unique Drip Tighe everyday carry folder,” CRKT says.
With tongue firmly planted in their cheek, CRKT notes about the knife, “Born in the kitchen, bred for the garage, the Drip Tighe is the ultimate daily companion.” We agree – and it’s fun to talk about.
