For the past couple of years, we’ve published a list of our favorite knives for that year. This year there were so many incredible new releases the list of favorites became impossibly long. How do you choose between the Spyderco Smock, the CRKT XOC, the Artisan Proponent, and the Cold Steel AD-10? What about Rick Hinderer’s Full Track? What about all those knives we dearly love that won’t make anyone’s Top 10?
This year, we’re publishing a series of articles about our many of our Favorite Knives for 2019. We’re starting off with a knife that only barely qualifies as a knife, but one that brought sincere joy into our lives throughout the year.
The Handmade Amazon Jungle Knife required very little debate in the office for “2019 Favorite Just for Fun” knife. We’ve even heard through the grapevine that the Jimislash review of the “booty knife” is one of his most often mentioned “for fun” knife reviews.
The boringly named Marble’s Chopper, the Marble’s mini-axe, and the Backwoods Bushcrafter Pocket Chopper all get an honorable mention. Alas, there’s NOTHING like the Amazon Jungle Knife.
No knife in the history of knifedom is as purely just for fun as the Handmade Amazon Jungle Knife is strictly for fun. It might cut butter if the butter has already been softened a bit. The steel is questionable. The handle materials are largely clay, cabochons, and clearly handmade. There are a ton of different designs, and rumor has it there are more on the way.
