With a thoroughly modern build and high-quality materials, the LionSteel BestMan is a snappy slipjoint with a smoothly solid feel and an amazing look. It’s not your grandad’s knife, but he just might envy it if it’s your pocket dump.
If you’re a traditional slipjoint fan, the first thing you’ll notice about the LionSteel BestMan is it’s a jack knife pattern but with squared titanium bolsters and offset pivot screws. The screw construction let’s you take your knife apart to clean it. Although the offset pivot screws might initially offend the OCD sensibilities of some, we believe it adds to overall symmetry and balanced look of the knife.
The blade steel is Bohler M380 stainless steel, which is a powdered steel that has a comparatively high hardness combined with outstanding wear and corrosion resistance. It’s available in either a single or a double-ended jack pattern. These slipjoints have a firm opening, and a great snap with clearly defined half stops.
The backsprings on this knife are not what you’d expect. Rather than the smooth-as-glass standard we’ve come to expect from the last several hundred years, the backsprings on the BestMan are slightly rounded and clearly distinct individual backsprings. In other words, it’s more like what you’d expect on a modern folder with a fantastic fit and finish. It has titanium liners with either carbon fiber, Micarta, or wood handle scales and it’s built with screw-in construction for easy maintenance.
