The new SOG Terminus XR is a fully ambidextrous, modern folder with multiple opening methods. At about $70, SOG has straddled the middle of the road to give you the best possible knife for the money.
This is SOG’s first knife that uses their new XR technology. The XR is somewhat like the AXIS lock. The ambidextrous switch on the handle of the knife both opens the knife and locks the 2.95” BDZ1 clip point in place. The opening is way faster than you expect. If you aren’t partial to the XR type open, it also has ambidextrous thumb studs and a flipper.
The CTS BDZ1 blade has a satin finish and is sharp straight out of the box. Although this steel has taken some flak for not holding an edge like S35Vn, the advantage of BDZ1 is that it takes a razor-sharp edge with ease.
There’s aggressive jimping on both the spine and the flipper. The G-10 handles have a carbon fiber overlay that’s chamfered for slip resistance. The deep carry pocket clip is reversible. It’s one of the easier to change as well as it slides into a slot in the frame then screws in for a fully ambidextrous, tip up carry.
