Production versions of popular custom knives give more access to more people for some seriously awesome designs with great materials. The Pena X Series Mini Diesel, manufactured by Reate, is one of those knives. For $300 you get that attention to detail found in more pricier custom knives and a much lower price.
It features a 3.25″ premium M390 stainless steel drop point blade that flips open on ceramic ball bearings and locks up tight with a titanium framelock. We’ve played with our fair share of flippers and the Mini Diesel not only feels great in hand, but it’s also just extremely smooth to operate. Basically effortless. When using it, a finger groove in the handle along with some jimping on the spine and backspacer adds a good bit of grip.
The Mini Diesel pulls out all the stops in the looks department. Along with its impressive fit and finish, it has marbled carbon fiber handle scales with a blue anodized spacer and hardware. Black PVD finish on the bolsters helps set off the color of the hardware, so that’s a nice touch. It also has a tip-up titanium pocket clip and what Pena calls an “inline lanyard pin” for attachments.
