Flippers and Bali enthusiasts are always looking for cutting edge knives (no pun intended). They are constantly attempting new tricks and learning advanced moves, and Benchmade is doing their part to take the standard issue Balisong to the next level by introducing the BM87.
The key to having a great Balisong is that its light and agile enough to move quickly in the hands of a seasoned flipper, but drop resistant enough for amateurs like me. The new 87 features Benchmade’s thrust bearing system. These bearings are cone shaped and provide great impact resistance with little friction on the blade. You don’t have to cringe when you accidently drop it, and you can spend more time posting cool internet videos of your skills.
The blade itself is CPM-S30V in a 4 ½” Wharncliffe design. Flipping is all about style so it’s nice to have a design that’s unique compared to any other Bali’s on the market. The handles are sandblast coated titanium and provide an excellent grip, but not enough to feel “sticky” in your hands. To keep with the futuristic vibe that the 87 puts off, Benchmade designed a magnetic locking system that is easy to latch and unlatch, but doesn’t throw off your balance when flipping the knife.
