Hogue Knives are widely known as big, beefy folders built to take a beating and keep on cutting. The new Hogue A01 Microswitch is still beefy, it’s just a little less big. This is Hogue’s first sub 3-inch folder. Former Recon Marine, Allen Elishewitz designed it to be an easy daily carry that won’t wear on your pocket but still performs with all the speed and durability you’d expect from a Hogue. With a closed length of under 4” and a weight of about 3 ounces, we think he succeeded.
Hogue tells us, “The key to the Hogue MicroSwitch’s reliability and performance is its proprietary music wire spring, developed specifically for Hogue Knives by famed spring maker Wolff Gunsprings.” The 2.75” CPM154 drop point blade has a hollow grind and tumbled finish. It’s cryogenically heat-treated to an HRC of 57-59, then it is hand sharpened and honed to a shaving sharp edge.
With the simple push of a button, the blade springs open with a delightful force. Once open, lock up is even more secure with the secondary manual safety switch. When you slide the switch up, it makes it so the push button can’t engage in either the open or the closed position.
There’s tons of jimping throughout the knife to ensure a good grip. Hogue tells us, “The Type III hard coat anodize 6061-T6 aluminum frame is sculpted for an ergonomic grasp and comfortable one-handed deployment. The frame is patterned with an escalating indent texture for additional grip traction and includes a pointed impact pommel.”
Finally, the MicroSwitch is fully ambidextrous. The push button and secondary safety are easily accessed with either the left or the right hand. It also comes with a deep carry, ambidextrous tip-up pocket clip with a filler plate.
