Designed by Andrew Demko and closely based on his custom version of the AD-15, the Cold Steel AD-15 is an amazing one-handed opener with a ridiculously sweet lock. It takes a second to get the hang of opening and closing this knife, but once you do, it’s one of the most practical, serious knives with a secondary fidget spinner functionality on the market right now. Why do we call it a secondary fidget spinner? Because once you get the hang of it, you’re going to open and close it no less than five million times that day. It’s that fun and addictive.
According to the video up there, locks are Andrew Demko’s hobby. The Scorpion Lock on the AD-15 is one that is almost certain to never fail.
Cold Steel explains it like this, “[The] bottom portion of the handle has 3D-machined G-10 scales mated to steel liners, while the upper portion of the handle, called the “yoke” is crafted from a 3D-machined 6061 aluminum billet that includes an integral back spacer which conceals a strong compression spring. To open the knife, simply engage the thumb stud and watch the yoke rise up, until it falls snugly into a deep notch cut in the blade’s tang. Held securely by constant pressure from the spring and, supported by the strength of one’s grip, the Scorpion Lock is virtually immune from failure!”
The AD-15 has a 3.5” S35VN drop point with a two-tone finish and a sabre grind. The blade thickness is 0.15”. It’s Cold Steel, so of course it’s razor sharp straight out of the box.
This knife is fully ambidextrous. The tip-up pocket clip is both removable and can be carried on the left or the right side. The ambidextrous thumb studs are easily accessible, and the one-handed opening is super quick and super easy.
