The wait is over! The Spyderco Smock has finally arrived. Based on industrial designer Kevin Smock’s SK23 custom folder, the Spyderco Smock is a fast, slim, sturdy, and all-around amazing knife that more than lives up to the hype.
The hollow-ground 3.39” CPM S30V modified Wharncliffe has an interesting and discreet squared flipper as well as the traditional Round Hole opener. The flipper is easily accessed, fast, and smooth. Spyderco tells us, “The flipper action is supported by a pair of special ball-bearing pivot washers and a dedicated secondary detent mechanism separate from the knife’s lock.”
Once open, the blade locks in place with a compression lock. One of the most exciting innovations with the Smock is that the compression lock has a button release. If you’ve ever accidentally closed a knife on your finger, this is most exciting because the button release keeps your fingers entirely out of the blade path.
Mounted on a skeletonized stainless-steel frame, the laminated carbon fiber and G-10 handles have an open back construction. This is great because it keeps the weight down to a mere 3.7 ounces. It also has an ambidextrous, tip-up pocket clip.
