There are two new versions of the popular Spyderco Dragonfly 2 on the block. These knives maintain all the things you love about the originals. They’re small enough to practically disappear in the pocket while cutting way outside their weight class. They’re still ergonomically shaped, and incredibly slip resistant. However, they’ve added an Emerson Opener to one model and a new Wharcliffe blade profile for the other. Let’s take a look at each of them.

Of course the Spyderco Dragonfly 2 Emerson has the Trademark Round Hole opener. Now you have the option of using the Emerson Opener. Here’s how it works. The integral hook simply snags the top of your pocket letting the knife open up as it’s drawn out. That means any potential challenge of opening this knife one-handed is gone.

The Dragonfly 2 Emerson features a 2.28″ VG-10 stainless steel drop point with jimping along the thumb ramp for a great grip. It also has a deep, navy blue FRN handle with non-slip Bi-Directional Texturing. The reversible tip-up pocket clip makes it fully ambidextrous. There is also a lanyard hole for attachments.

A Wharncliffe is the blade of choice for many knife users. Spyderco tells us it, “offers extreme cutting power near the heel and scalpel-like precision at the tip—especially when combined with a low-friction, full-flat grind.” Lockup is secure with the lock back. The lightweight, black FRN handles house an ambidextrous tip-up pocket clip and lanyard hole.
