Designed by writer, former Marine, and founder of Crucible Security Specialists Kelly McCann the Spyderco Canis is a unique tactical Wharncliffe. Spyderco tells us, “His decades of real-world operational experience are clearly reflected in the Canis — a no-nonsense folding knife optimized for personal protection.” Not only that, this knife is a fully ambidextrous beast with a fantastic look and an incredible feel in hand.
The Canis has a 3.34” CPM S30V Wharncliffe blade with a blade thickness of 0.118” and a hollow grind. There’s jimping along the thumb ramp for a great grip and a reinforced tip for a powerful pierce. There’s a substantial mid-blade swedge which cuts the weight down without sacrificing cutting power. It quickly flicks open with Spyderco’s Trademark Round Hole and the drops closed with the compression lock.
It has peel-ply carbon fiber and G-10 laminate handle scales mounted on skeletonized stainless-steel liners. The handle has a nice texture that isn’t hard on the pocket while remaining slip resistant. It’s contoured for comfort, and fairly slim with a handle thickness of about 0.44”. It has a four-position pocket clip and a lanyard hole. The Canis is 4.73” closed, 8.12” overall, and weighs about 4.1 ounces.
