There’s no denying the swayback type pattern is incredibly popular right now and for good reason. Spyderco tells us the Spyderco Swayback, “…is designed by “renowned Polish knifemaker Marcin Slysz [who] supercharges this classic design by rendering it with state-of-the-art materials and craftsmanship.” It’s not just marketing hype. This knife is beautiful, fast, and highly functional knife.
The Swayback has a 3.53” stonewashed CTS-XHP Wharncliffe blade with a hollow grind a blade thickness of 0.139”. Now, CTS-XHP is high end “super steel” made by Carpenter with their MicroMelt technology with very good edge retention. The opening is super smooth and easy with the Trademark Round Hole (or Spydie hole.)
The solid titanium handles feature super clean lines that rides beautifully in your pocket with nary a snag in sight. It has an open back construction for easy maintenance. It’s smoothly finished, and all the edges are crowned for a fantastic in-hand feel. This is a Reeve Integral Lock (R.I.L.), so called because the frame lock as we know it was invented and named by Chris Reeve, and it has a cut out near the lock for easy indexing. It has a mirror-polished, ambidextrous tip-up stainless-steel pocket clip and lanyard hole. This knife is 4.51” closed and weighs just under 4 ounces.
